Eek!!! One week exactly til Move In Day! Popped into the site today and no one was there, that's a good sign, right? Everyone's on track so they can afford to relax for a day? Just coincidence that the head builder was home sick today?
The painter has finished inside, and it's perfection. This is an example of when OCD can be a useful thing! The kitchen installers drew on the back kitchen wall to line up the overhead cupboards, thinking that said cupboards would cover over the line. They didn't. Afraid of telling the notoriously perfectionist painter who has JUST painted this entire house, the kitchen installer called his DAD to come and paint over it! Luckily for them, I saved the day by telling them we are tiling the whole back wall as our splashback - crisis averted!! Of course, one crisis averted means there's space for the next one to appear..... the kitchen installers then dropped the 4m long stainless steel benchtop, denting it. Back to the factory for YOU!
Concrete floor was sealed and finished over the weekend. Carpet goes in Wednesday. Tiler in about the same time, once kitchen fully finished. Interior doors to go back on, cedar doors to be finished and rehung, front door to be painted a colour from Resene Kidz Colour Chart! How 'bout them apples! It was the whole "spelling kidz with a z" thing that did it for me, obvs. Electrician is in all tomorrow finishing his bits and pieces, can't wait to see the pendants hung!! Oh, and on Wed, Ben gets the privilege of sitting on the newly-installed toilets in front of an eager crowd so he can direct the toilet-roll holder hanging process. Jealous! (I would offer to do it, but watching an eight-months-pregnant woman trying to get up off the toilet is NOT pretty. Don't want to scar all the innocent young men!
Some pics?

Here 'tis. The world's biggest kitchen! Missing the back bench, for obvious reasons.... Also some ply display shelving to go along the back wall, and some gorgeous tiling for the splashback zone. LOVE how you can't even tell there's a rangehood there! And the floor!! And those SKYLIGHTS!! I die!!
So as we approach the tail-end of the build, how are we feeling? I haven't done the budget in a while, so feeling all good there! I love a good false sense of security, don't you? Have had to put off for the short term some of the key things I want, eg the pantry hatch :'( It's all framed out in the wall behind the gib, ready for cutting out and sticking a door in when we have a spare few (okay, more than a few) hundred hanging around. Waaahh!
There has been some drama / miscommunication with the building company. I am crossing all my extremities that it is dealt with quickly and we get to refocus on all the exciting-ness of this last week. And also, that I can sleep again. And not go into labour. Let's all cross fingers for that, shall we?
*Must my blog posts always reference song titles? I'll make more of an effort to avoid this next post!
