Roof is on! Took a while to get sorted because the lengths of profiled metal are so long! 17 metres, FYI. So they had to get a bigger truck, then figure out if the truck could turn around down our drive (it couldn't), then arrange to get lots of men to come and carry it down the drive. Got there in the end tho! Roof is on!
We thought that once the roof was on, the inside would be protected from the rain, which would give the concrete a chance to dry out so they can start doing some internal work. But we have skylights! Or, as it stands, random holes in the roof!
Building is wrapped too, which is cool as it gives us a real feel of what it will be like. Check it out!

Highlights atm include the cedar cladding arriving and going up. Stained in "High Country", whatever that means! The profiled metal cladding has arrived too, so it's been awesome seeing the colours together IRL as opposed to on tiny, tiny swatches. Another highlight has been having friends come over to visit and have a nosy! People have been impressed (to our faces :p ) with the size and the practicality of the layout (Dumping zone when you enter the house - tick! Children's rooms far far away from parent's room - tick! Hatch from garage into massive pantry for unloading groceries - tick! Guess this means I will have to stop using Countdown's online delivery?)
I'm *starting* to think a bit about interior design stuff too. If only I had no job / hours of spare time / millions of dollars I could go crazy in this area! Trying to keep it budget-friendly, but also am aware that the details make such a difference to the end result. Wanna see some ideas? Do ya? Do ya? DO YA?? Let's start with our big focus at the moment: the Kitchen.
If you follow me on Pinterest, I'm pretty sure you would have guessed the direction we're going in. Clean white surfaces and birch ply. The trick is not to end up too sterile with the concrete floor and stainless steel back bench and appliances. The plan is that the wood, and the subtly textured splashback will add interest and warmth. Let's see some inspo:
Although the island is ply with a white top, the rest of the kitchen will be white cabinetry (with the odd ply display box), and have a stainless steel bench along the back wall with the induction cooktop in it.
So there it is! My dream kitchen! There is a massive walk-in pantry too, but nothing exciting to design in there! We don't know what to do about pendant lights tho. Don't want copper (too overdone), or wood. Don't want glass or shiny, hard lights. Hate bare bulb types. Ideas?? Post links in comments! A bar of lime and chilli schoc to the winner!
